Student Organizations
INI students have the opportunity to participate in a multitude of student organizations at Carnegie Mellon. There is an organization at Carnegie Mellon for nearly every interest, including politics, martial arts, sports, astronomy, robotics, spirituality and cultural groups. There are also a variety of events that students may participate in throughout the year.
Carnegie Mellon Student Organizations
ECE and INI Graduate Organization (EGO)
EGO is an organization concerned with the quality of graduate student life in the ECE department and the INI department at Carnegie Mellon University.
EGO hosts many activities throughout the year, from happy hours and sports to a Fall Picnic and a Winter Party. All ECE and INI graduate students are welcome to help out with graduate life. To get involved with EGO, contact ego@ece.cmu.edu.
Graduate Student Assembly
The Graduate Student Assembly is the student governmental body representing all Carnegie Mellon graduate students. As the custodian of graduate students' activities fees, the GSA recognizes and funds student organizations, funds programs that benefit graduate students, and puts on social events for all graduate students. The GSA is also an advocate for graduate students at the campus, city, state, and federal levels.
As a parliamentary body, the GSA is made up of representatives from every department on campus as well as a 5-officer Executive Board. Each INI class elects a GSA representative, and officers are elected in late Fall by the representatives. Any and all graduate students are welcome and encouraged to run for positions as departmental representatives or executive officers.
Student Advisory Council
INI students play an active part in shaping their educational experience, and one vehicle for this is the Student Advisory Council. Students elected to The Student Advisory Council have the opportunity to express the concerns of the student body to the administration and have those concerns addressed.
Women in INI
Women@INI is committed to promoting and supporting the professional and academic goals of Information Networking Institute (INI) students. The goal of the organization is to create a nurturing and inspiring learning environment that promotes and celebrates gender and cultural equality and diversity, both within and beyond the INI.
