Five Good Reasons to Choose the INI
[ 1 ] A Carnegie Mellon Education
As a student at the INI, you’ll have the resources of one of the top 25 schools in the U.S. at your fingertips. Carnegie Mellon’s more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students pursue specialty programs that are considered among the best. The INI is an integral department of Carnegie Mellon’s College of Engineering, which is consistently ranked among the top 10 engineering colleges in the U.S. At the INI you’ll be learning from some of the best in the field while participating in innovative research.
[ 2 ] Research Opportunities
The INI is the education partner of Carnegie Mellon CyLab, a university-wide, multidisciplinary research center involving more than 200 faculty, students and staff that builds on over two decades of Carnegie Mellon’s leadership in information technology. As an INI student, you’ll have the opportunity to work on research at CyLab or one of several other research institutes on campus. While there are many opportunities on campus, research at the INI isn’t confined to the university setting. At the INI you’ll also have the chance to work on real-world problems for companies in the areas of information networking and information security.
[ 3 ] Strong Career Connections
INI students prepare for important jobs in the fields of information networking and information security, and the staff and faculty are committed to making sure students find these jobs. The graduating class of 2007 had a 100% placement rate, with one of the highest starting salaries of any department at Carnegie Mellon. Through the INI’s dedicated career consultant, a broad alumni network and numerous industry connections, you’ll have a direct line to multiple career resources and many top corporations in a variety of sectors.
[ 4 ] A Global Education for a Global Economy
The INI prepares students for careers in the global workplace by offering programs in the United States, Greece, Japan and Portugal. Students at international locations attend courses taught remotely from Pittsburgh via the latest videoconferencing technology as well as courses taught on-site by INI-affiliated faculty. These programs integrate international issues and perspectives in order to provide students with a truly global education that they can put to work in their home countries.
[ 5 ] Scholarships for INI Students
As an INI student, you can receive funding in the form of student loans, research assistantships, teaching assistantships or fellowships. INI students have received awards in the past from CyLab Korea, Symantec, Kennametal, Inc., Verizon, and Nokia, and one exemplary MSISTM student each year is selected for the Frank J. Marshall scholarship, an award of $14,500. The INI has also partnered with the Executive Women’s Fellowship to award scholarships over the 2007-2009 school years. As a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education, CyLab and the INI participate in the Federal Cyber Service Scholarship for Service (SFS) Program where eligible MSISTM students may receive full financial assistance in exchange for work at a federal agency.
