Tuition for the INI graduate degree programs is set in the spring for the class entering in the following fall. The tuition rate for students entering INI programs in Fall 2008 has been established at $71,400 for three semesters. Tuition is generally payable in three equal installments.

Most students will have completed their tuition payment by their third semester (summer semester for MSIN, MSISTM & MSIT students). Students will only be assessed additional tuition fees if they continue in the program beyond their fourth semester.

Fees

In addition to tuition, students are assessed additional fees by Carnegie Mellon to pay for access to the city bus, student activities such as the Graduate Student Organization, and a technology fee. Students will be assessed these fees even after they have completed their tuition payments.

Health Insurance

Health insurance is mandatory for all students. The estimated expense listed above is for an individual plan. A foreign student who is married and whose spouse and children are in the United States with him/her is required to purchase the family plan health insurance, current estimated cost: $2,800.00 per year (2007-2008 academic year).

The health insurance rates listed are estimates only; the actual cost of student health insurance is set annually. Anyone enrolling in the University health insurance plan must pay the full premium at the time of registration.

All tuition bills include a charge for the Option 3 health insurance plan (the least expensive of all the plans offered). Students who already have health insurance comparable to the plans offered by CMU may submit a waiver form and have the charge removed from their tuition.

Students may also upgrade to Options 2 or 1 if they desire more coverage. See the Health Services page for more information about insurance.

Billing & Payment

All admitted students who return a Graduate Student Data Sheet to the INI to accept the admission offer are entered into the Carnegie Mellon Student Information System (SIS). This system is the basis for class registration and tuition billing, among other on-line services.

Once registered for courses, a tuition bill will be generated through Enrollment Services (the HUB). Each semester, tuition must be paid one week prior to the first day of classes. The first tuition payment for students entering the MSIN, MSISTM, or MSIT programs in Fall 2008 will be due by August 15, 2008.

Students who receive tuition scholarships through the INI will not receive these funds directly. The INI Business and Enrollment Manager will apply the tuition scholarship to the student's tuition.
