From Near & Far: Welcome New Students

INI studentsAt the end of August, we introduce the twenty-first class of students to the graduate programs at the Information Networking Institute—or "The INI" as we like to call it. The MS21 class is made up of around 120 students who have come to pursue studies in information networking, information security, mobility and software management.  Fifty-two students will study in the INI Pittsburgh programs and 28 in the bicoastal Pittsburgh-Silicon Valley programs, while nearly 40 are enrolled in the INI global programs at our international partner institutes in Greece, Japan and Portugal.

Whether in Pittsburgh or around the world, the INI graduate programs offer a global perspective due to the diversity of the students. This year's incoming class has attracted students from at least 22 different countries: Albania, China, Greece, India, Iran, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Sao Tome & Principe, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and United States.

INI orientation activities take place Thursday and Friday, August 20-21, 2009. The new students join their second-year counterparts in Pittsburgh for a boat cruise Friday evening on the Gateway Clipper.

Over two days, the new students get acquainted with faculty, INI staff and each other as they embark on their graduate school careers. Hard work lies ahead; INI students have always said the first semester is the hardest of the highly challenging 16-month programs. But, the new students already made it through a tough Admissions process. The INI is confident they have what it takes to succeed.
