Six INI Students Receive Conference Scholarships

The 2015 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing takes place October 14-15 in Houston, Texas. First organized in 1994, the annual conference is "designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront." It has grown to be one of the largest events of its kind. For a few days each year, the most ambitious women in tech gather in one place to share wisdom and secrets of the trade. The Grace Hopper Celebration offers more than just a hiatus from the daily grind; it fills up the reserves of inspiration and energy for women for the year ahead.

Each year, the keynote and plenary speakers are respected visionaries and pacesetters. The conference offers discussions, workshops, break-out sessions and a career fair. From Cisco and Google to Facebook and Microsoft, some of the biggest names in the industry will fill the booths.

As a gold-level sponsor of the conference, the INI sponsors students annually through Women@INI conference scholarships, which cover registration and travel expenses.

INI Director, Dr. Dena Haritos Tsamitis, announced this year's six scholarship winners in a congratulatory message.

The winners are:

MS26s:
Archana Iyer
Preeti Ravindra
Chrysanthi Vendera

MS27s:
Arushi Grover
Priyanka Kulkarni
Khayati Vipinkumar Sampat

The event is a favorite among the INI students and alumni who have attended it in the past. INI alumnae Lynn Yao (MS24) attended in 2012 after winning the essay contest.

"I enjoyed meeting all the people from different companies and universities. It was a great atmosphere that was very diverse," she said. Yao also enjoyed the career fair and said she received several interview requests from potential employers based on her submission to the conference's resume book.
