Graduation Celebrations

April 27, 2012

With this year's diploma ceremony quickly approaching, the excitement and anticipation is building, as well as a little sadness, for the 2012 graduating class. Graduates will be embarking on the next stage of their lives--whether that involves doctoral studies, the professional workforce, positions in the government or the pursuit of an entrepreneurial startup dream. They will be missed, but the INI wishes them all the best!

It's time to make the most of what time remains on campus, for graduates and returning INI students alike. Students can start planning now to participate in celebratory events.

Annual GOINI Picnic, May 17

The Graduate Organization@INI (GOINI) hosts an annual picnic for both graduating and returning INI students in Schenley Park. There is no better way to relax at the end of the semester than to get together with classmates one last time! A highlight of the picnic is the delicious spread from the grill, with vegetarian options, catered by Mitch's BBQ. Of course there is more fun to be had with ice cream, games and giveaways. This year's picnic will be Thursday, May 17 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Be sure to check for the picnic's details from GOINI and the email invitations that go out to current students. Everyone must register in advance to participate.

Carnegie Mellon University 115th Commencement, May 20

You know you're a Carnegie Mellon graduate when you hear the Tartan fanfare (bagpipes) and President Cohon addresses thousands of graduates from across the seven colleges. An alumnus and critically acclaimed actor Patrick Wilson (A'95) is scheduled to deliver the keynote address, and this year's student speaker is Caroline Kessler, a December 2011 graduate of the Marianna Brown Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences. For those students interested in attending the university's commencement ceremony, it will be held on Sunday, May 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Gesling Stadium.

Information Networking Institute Diploma Ceremony, May 20

Bestowing the diplomas and putting a personal spin on the weekend, the INI director and faculty present the INI diploma ceremony for graduates and their families. The ceremony honors the graduates and the student award winners. INI alumnus Marullus Williams (MS06), CEO of Limbic Systems, is the guest speaker. The event will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Rodef Shalom on Fifth Avenue in Oakland. The ceremony begins at 3 p.m. and is followed by a reception at 4 p.m. where there will be a variety of appetizers and hors d'oeuvres, desserts and a bar service.

Be sure to put these events into your schedule and wish congratulations to the MS22s, our INI Class of 2012!
