GOINI Workshops Help Students Balance Demands

    November 18, 2011

The Graduate Student Organization@INI (GOINI) a student organization has a new workshop series this year. The series was initiated by INI student Marcus Smith (MS22) and is entitled "Don't Struggle Like I Did" (DSLID). The idea behind the program is to assist incoming students with acclimating to grad school life.

The most recent DSLID workshop was on stress management and was held on Monday, November 14. A presentation was given by Michele Keffer from Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and Kelley Shell from University Health Services. Some key points included the positives and negatives to stress, different ways of dealing with stress reactions, and how to evaluate and improve your environment and study time.

Campus resources to help students manage their stress were also discussed and are listed below.

For a counseling appointment during office hours or 24/7 crisis support, students may call CAPS at 412-268-2922. CAPS is located at Morewood Gardens, E-tower, 2nd floor. CAPS services are free for CMU students and are private and confidential.
