MySecureCyberspace Web Portal Wins Award

MySecureCyberspace

May 22, 2007 - The MySecureCyberspace Web portal won an award of merit for online communication in the 2006-2007 competition sponsored by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC Pittsburgh). STC Pittsburgh presented the award at an annual awards dinner on Monday night to Dena Haritos Tsamitis, Anna Maria Berta, John Dolan, Christa Jones and the INI student content team, who created the Web portal to educate the public.

Inspired by the President’s National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace, MySecureCyberspace empowers users to secure their own part of cyberspace. It gives customized information to users about cybersecurity threats, in addition to tactical countermeasures and legal, ethical and privacy issues. Carnegie Mellon CyLab and the Information Networking Institute support the Web portal through a grant from the National Science Foundation.

The award of merit in online communication recognizes outstanding accomplishments and innovations in the design and development of online information. To win, a communication piece must clearly fulfill the intended purpose, possess superior quality, successfully integrate and organize content and use the available media and technologies to the best advantage.

By winning the award, MySecureCyberspace can enter in the international STC competition for online communication. Other award-winners included SEI Communications, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, ComponentOne, Temple University and Kyocera Mita Corporation.
