November 15, 2005

INI student Mukund Gunti gave a presentation titled "Best Practices for Securing VMware ESX Server" at VMworld 2005 on October 19. VMworld is the biggest virtualization event of the year, focusing on techniques for building, fine-tuning, and maintaining virtual infrastructures.

Gunti's presentation focused on keeping ESX servers, virtual machines, and dormant virtual machines patched; service console authentication; securing service console network services; and virtual machine access control. Gunti submitted an abstract for a talk on security to the conference at the suggestion of his manager at VMware , where he interned over the summer.

Gunti plans to join the technical staff at VMware after his graduation in May.
