The INI is thrilled to welcome the MS28 class to Pittsburgh at Orientation. This will be your opportunity to get to know faculty and staff, your fellow classmates, and receive a lot of important information you'll need in order to succeed at the INI. You'll hear from many faculty members who will present about classes they teach and their research (if applicable), you'll learn about Carnegie Mellon and INI policies, your program requirements and you'll be able to ask questions!

Monday, August 22 and Tuesday, August 23 | Individual Assigned Timeslots

Check-in at the INI building: You should have received an email from Lisa Currin with your check-in and photo session time. If you didn’t receive such an email please email Lisa

At check-in you will receive the orientation schedule, an INI backpack, and sign some forms. Students who did not complete the admissions survey will do so then. Any paperwork you must submit to the admissions staff can be delivered at check-in.

Preparing for Orientation

  • Develop your preliminary course plan before orientation. This exercise will help you understand your degree requirements, realize which questions you should ask and to whom whether it's the faculty member, your advisor, or the INI ESO, etc.
  • Use the program tracking sheet we sent earlier in the summer to get started with course planning. After reviewing degree requirements and checking the schedule of classes, start filling in your track sheet.
  • Prepare questions for your advisor so you can get the most out of the Advising Workshop scheduled for Friday (8/26/2016).
  • Bring your laptop to access your course plan during the advisor session.

What to Bring

Orientation is a lot of fun, but the days are long, so be sure to dress comfortably. You will especially want to dress comfortably on Wednesday, August 24 (and wear good walking shoes – you'll need them). Food will be provided, and there will be a selection of vegetarian options. If anyone has any special needs, dietary or other, please contact us in advance of Orientation and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
