Lisbon MSIT-IS

The challenge will be for our graduates to learn how to work across international boundaries to gather the best ideas and the best experiences from around the world and deploy them both in their country and, presumably, if they're working in multinational firms, also around the world. The fact that we have many international students in our programs and that they learn to work with people from different disciplines is, I think, a real plus in that regard.
Marvin Sirbu, professor and founder of the INI

The INI offers the Master of Science in Information Technology - Information Security program in Lisbon, Portugal (Lisbon MSIT-IS), in partnership with Faculdade de Ciências, University of Lisbon (FCUL).

The Lisbon MSIT-IS degree gives students advanced knowledge in security and dependability to prepare them to be leaders in industry and government.

The curriculum provides the background, insights and technical coverage of key elements of information security. Set in a lively research environment, the program offers core courses that address the field of information and infrastructure security and dependability and a range of electives that provide the opportunity to study some areas in greater depth. Students learn to succeed as managers and technologists in the growing and rapidly changing field of information security.

Coursework takes place at the University of Lisbon and uses a hybrid distributed education format that combines locally taught courses with courses taught from Carnegie Mellon via video-conferencing technologies.

Degree Standards

The Lisbon MSIT-IS is assessed on an ongoing basis to ensure the integrity of the degree being conferred. The components of the assessment include: direct classroom observation, inter-rating grading analysis to ensure grading consistency, tracking of overall performance, online surveys and focus groups to measure student satisfaction, faculty course evaluations rating overall course quality and quality of the instructor, and continuous evaluation of distance learning technologies.

Upon completion, students receive degrees from both universities: the Master of Science in Information Technology - Information Security (MSIT-IS) from Carnegie Mellon, and the corresponding Master of Science from FCUL of Mestre em Segurança Informática (a Bologna second cycle officially accredited degree).
