The INI is located in Oakland, two blocks from the Carnegie Mellon campus, off of S. Craig St. on Henry St. The office can be reached from Forbes Avenue or Fifth Avenue. Both Forbes and Fifth run the length of Oakland.
Please note that visitor parking is limited and is intended for individuals making short visits to the office. To the left of S. Craig is the S. Dithridge St. garage. If you are driving, you should use this facility to park.

Driving Directions
I-376 from Downtown to CMU
- Take I-376 from downtown until the Forbes Avenue/Oakland exit (Exit 6) and go through Oakland on Forbes Avenue.
- Stay on Forbes through the Oakland business district and past the University of Pittsburgh. When you come to the Cathedral of Learning, an enormous Gothic structure on your left, you are less than a mile from CMU.
- Continue past the large Carnegie Museum complex on your right and make a left onto S. Craig St.
- Drive up three blocks and make a right onto Henry St. Look for the parking lot; this is the INI office.

I-376 from Monroeville and points East
- Take I-376 (Parkway East) until the Squirrel Hill/Homestead exit (Exit 8), immediately after the Squirrel Hill Tunnel. Before you enter the tunnel make sure that you are in the right hand lane, as you won’t have time to change lanes at the end of the tunnel.
- At the first set of lights, you will come to a five-way intersection - make a gentle left turn.You should now be on Murray Avenue, the main shopping street of Squirrel Hill.
- Follow Murray up the hill past five traffic lights to Forbes Avenue. Turn left onto Forbes and follow it. CMU is on the left-hand side of the road at the bottom of the hill after the bend in the road. You can park in the garage on Forbes and walk the rest of the way to the INI office.
- If you wish to drive to the INI, continue to drive down Forbes past the CMU campus until you reach S. Craig St. at the bottom of the hill.
- Make a right onto S. Craig and drive three blocks
- Make a right onto Henry St and look for the parking lot; this is the INI office.

From the South or West
- Take I-70 to Washington, PA
- take I-79 North to I-279 North, which brings you into downtown Pittsburgh.
- Follow the signs to I-376 East (Monroeville).
- Directions continue with I-376 from Downtown to CMU.
From the North
- If you are coming from Northern Ohio, Ontario, or Michigan, take the I-79 South to I-279, which branches off from I-79 a few miles south of the PA Turnpike.
- Follow I-279 to I-579 (the Veteran’s Bridge)
- Follow the “To I-376 East” signs onto the Boulevard of the Allies.
- Once on the Boulevard, do not continue on to I-376, but instead follow the signs for Oakland and Forbes Avenue, which then lands you in the middle of the I-376 from Downtown to CMU instructions.

From the Greyhound Bus Station (located in downtown Pittsburgh)
- Take a right onto 2nd Ave.
- Turn left at Brady St.
- Turn right at Forbes Ave.
- Stay on Forbes through the Oakland business district and past the University of Pittsburgh. When you come to the Cathedral of Learning, an enormous Gothic structure on your left, you are less than a mile from CMU.
- Continue past the large Carnegie Museum complex on your right and make a left onto S. Craig St.

From the Amtrak Train Station (located in downtown Pittsburgh)
- Head southwest from Liberty Ave. and bear left at Grant St.
- Turn left at 7th Ave.
- Bear left onto the I-579 S ramp to LIberty Bridge/Monroeville (I-376 E)
- Bear right at I-579 S
- Take the ramp to Oakland (I-376 E)/Monroeville
- Directions continue with I-376 from Downtown to CMU.
From the University Holiday Inn
- Make a left onto Fifth Ave.
- Make a left onto S. Craig St.
- Make a left onto Henry St. and look for the parking lot; this is the INI office.

Other Transportation
There are a number of Port Authority of Pittsburgh (PAT) buses that will take you to CMU. Board any bus with the following numbers: 61A, 61B, 61C, 67A, 67C, 67E, 67F or 67J. Each of these buses has a stop at S. Craig St. on Forbes Ave. Walk up S. Craig St. three blocks and make a right onto Henry St. Again, look for the parking lot; this is the INI office. The cost for a one-way ride is $1.25.
There are also a number of taxis waiting outside the bus and train stations that can take you to Oakland. If you need to call a taxi, it is best to call Yellow Cab; they are the largest and most reliable company in Pittsburgh. They can be reached at (412) 321-8100. You must provide an address when you call unless you are being picked up at the airport or the Greyhound or Amtrak stations.
A taxi trip from the Pittsburgh International Airport to Oakland costs approximately $40.00.
