Outreach & Awareness
Because the INI is the education partner of Carnegie Mellon CyLab, CyLab's education programs are under the jurisdiction of Dena Haritos Tsamitis, Director of the INI and Director of CyLab Education, Training and Outreach. Carnegie Mellon CyLab's education and outreach programs aim to:
- Raise awareness of cybersecurity threats
- Promote safe and responsible online behavior to citizens at all levels, equipping them to meet the demands and challenges of being responsible computer users and cybercitizens
- Build capacity for the protection of the global information infrastructure.
CyLab will raise “cyberawareness” in 10 million citizens worldwide in the next 5 years starting with 20,000 households in the Pittsburgh region. Education and outreach initiatives include:
- MySecureCyberspace.com
: Inspired by the President’s National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace, this initiative empowers users to secure their part of cyberspace:
- MySecureCyberspace: The Game
reaches out to children through a game and site that reinforce principles of safe and responsible computing.
- MySecureCyberspace: The Portal
provides customized information to users about cybersecurity threats, in addition to tactical countermeasures and legal, ethical, and privacy issues related to each cybersecurity threat.
